And Finally: Barneys Pre-Holiday Sale!

I am officially DVF'd out. I've got plenty of nice basics to update my ratty old basics, and few funky items to make me happy (like the knit hats with the giant pom poms all over them, btw, got 2 compliments on that hat this past weekend). I bought 3 things online from Saks, and returned 2 of them due to shortness and/or ugliness, but I'm waiting for a way overindulgent Neiman online splurge to get delivered.  Let's hope all my stress-headache related eating will result in nothing actually fitting. That being said, I would be lying if I said I was not very excited when I received a postcard on the last of the big 3 department store pre-sale sales.

The Barneys one week only sale starts on Thursday, Nov 19th and you can up to 40% off on selected items. The most interesting thing about this sale is that it includes shoes, unlike Saks and Neiman.  I'll have to at least take a peek this week.

Hopefully I'll get all this "shopping as medication" out of me before all the real sales start after Thanksgiving.

Shopping Update

Hi friends,

I know I have been very quiet these days. I sort of figure if I don’t have some ridiculous story to share, my news isn’t too exciting. The most interesting thing lately in my life regarding shopping is after I purchased that Balenciaga leather motorcycle jacket, I clung to it for 3-weeks and then just could not bear to own it because it was close to $3,000.00. Yes, I know. That is horrific. I actually got in my car, drove to Barney’s on Wilshire, walked in, returned it, contemplated a new bag (I would have “saved” $1,500), decided against it, browsed the shoes ($760 for a pair of Marni flats?, nah), and left empty handed. That is the first time in my life I left Barney’s empty handed.

Am I a huge bore now? I had a note on my calendar to get up out of bed, go to South Coast Plaza this weekend and stand in line for the Jimmy Choo sale at H&M. I hit “snooze” too many times and instead took my son to the Discovery Museum in Santa Ana, and had more fun since, well, I can’t remember. I was, however, a very cool, hip and stylish “mum” at the museum. Or as I told Alison and Pava days ago at THQ “Dude, I was hot!” Hey, for a 40’ish “mum”…..I had on my ripped AG jeans, yes, this season, Marni boots, tank-top since my arms are getting back in fighting condition, super long, recently done hair (thank God for extensions), and I’m officially < 130 pounds. The best accessory of all was the pure joy Mason and I had in the Yellow Submarine.

I’m patiently waiting for a check from Que in Corona del Mar, and Decades……maybe 50% will go into college fund and the rest, on Rodarte items at Target on December 20th.

Rodarte for Target: Crazy Bad or Crazy Good?!?

I was checking out the images from a Teen Vogue photoshoot with 15-year-old Dakota Fanning, and just happened to notice the caption stating she was wearing a leopard print dress from the Rodarte for Target line. Holy crap! That actually looks cute in the picture. Completely age-inappropriate for me, but you better believe I will at least try it on.

Before we move on to the rest of the collection, I must say, Dakota actually looks good. Like she's going to age well like the Olsen twins who were really ugly little girls.  But, I must also say that I think 4"+ heels on 15-year-old girls is not age-appropriate. Correct me if you disagree.

So of course, with this little spark of information on the Rodarte line, I searched the web. I found a great link with a slide show from NY Magazine's fashion section, The Cut.  Check out the slide show!
There is some weird, weird stuff in there, but I'm kind of diggin the cardigan/dress combos and the skeleton sequin dress.  As per usual, I'm sure I will buy 20 pieces and keep 3-5, giving away 2-4 within a year. Why do I bother? Regardless, I can't wait until December 20th when it goes on sale!!!!!!!!!

Sales Part 2: Neiman, Bloomingdales, Saks

We're getting close to that time! The stores are starting to do their 4-day sales prior to Black Friday. Here's what you need to know:

Bloomingdales:  save 20% on select items ONLINE ONLY.  Enter code SITM20 at checkout.  Offer ends 11/15.

Saks: up to 40% off select women's and 25% off men's apparel. Think this is in-store and online, not sure. Free shipping online with code NOVSHIP9.

Neiman Marcus:  Wednesday, 11/11 ONLY, up to 40% off all sorts of stuff (20% off cosmetics).  Both in-store and online. Free shipping online with code NMNOV.  Prices go back up on Thursday. Here's what this means, they are going to burn through some inventory before they start putting out the Resort collections and get ready for the First Call sale. Yippee!

And don't forget, Jimmy Choo for H&M goes on sale this Saturday, November 14th.

Happy Shopping, don't forget to let us know what you bought!

If I could find a way to make that headline flash and honk, I would, because I really do love sales. And the sales are just starting to trickle in.  I'm sure you are all well aware of the Nordstrom half-yearly sale. Personally, I'm not a big fan of Nordstrom, but it really depends on which store you go to. Whenever I wander into a Nordstrom, I find myself buying a bunch of stuff I really have no business buying, feeling heaps of buyer's remorse soon after.  But it is my go-to place for socks and stockings!

The other sale starting online today (Nov 4), and starting in-stores on Nov 5th is Saks Fifth Avenue. 40% off! They claim prices go back up on November 9th, but I'm sure that is only until they drop prices again after Thanksgiving. Keep in mind, everyone seems to have bought less inventory this year, so if you find something you really love, you should probably try to get it now while they still have it.

Now, I'm just waiting for Barneys and Neiman to announce their sales.  The "Co-Op" version of Neiman, called The Cusp is having a sale now both online and in-store (only store in SoCal is in Century City Mall), with savings up to 40%.

Good times!  Have fun shopping, and don't forget to buy the occasional holiday gift for someone before you completely blow your budget.
